Cyber mourning

If you never thought that your life could be summed up in the few lines a tombstone or obituary has to offer, there is no reason to worry, better options have presented themselves. The internet is ripe with sites informing the world about the dearly departed. The National Funeral Directors Association offers members a Web site template that includes online memorials. But these are merely single pages presenting a written obituary, with photos and "guest book" pages where mourners may submit sympathy wishes.

Outside the mortuary industry, the WebRing system of linked Websites has more than a hundred rings devoted to death of a child. The largest of these, Our Baby Angels links fully 149 grief Web sites. Other rings include general memorial rings and those devoted to the loss of a parent or partner. There are even rings deoted to Web sites mourning deceased pets.
